Light and Truth

Send out your light and your truth;
let them lead me;
let them bring me to your holy hill
and to your dwelling! (Psalm 43:3)

We live in a land of shadows. There is a dark power which rules in the minds and hearts of all men who are not awakened to the light of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But the land is not in utter darkness, the light of the Kingdom of God has broken in. Yet we are exiles here. Our citizenship is in the coming Kingdom of light. It is our inheritance. But for now, we travel in the shadowlands.

As we travel, we need light to light our way. Here the psalmist cries out for light and truth to lead him to God. Light to counter the darkness. Truth to counter the lies of Satan.

Where are we to look for light and truth to guide us through the shadowlands to God? The psalmist begs God to send them out, and he has.

Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105)

Sanctify them in the truth;
your word is truth. (John 17:17)

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

Jesus, the Word become flesh, is the light of the world. He is truth incarnate. And he has given us himself, and revealed himself to us in the bible, which is a light to our path, and is the very truth of God leading us home to him.
