Weekend Reads 5/30

Here are a few links we found interesting or worthwhile this week, and we pass them on to you for reading over the weekend.

Learn From Calvin and Hobbes About the Medium and the Message – “Watterson was worried that the very existence of these products would sap the power from the real thing; that a million Calvin window decals would make the Calvin comic strip harder to read. It’s possible that too many ineffective Jesus reminders all over the place might have a degrading effect on our ability to read Jesus where he really is.”

Grace Is Not A Thing – “I used to think of grace as a spiritual substance that God stores in piles behind his heavenly throne and dispenses to his people below. In other words, grace is stuff that God gives apart from himself. How wrong I was! Grace is not a thing.”

Legalism Is A Real Problem – This is a good first article in a new series addressing the issue of sanctification (growth in holiness over the course of time in the life of the Christian). This is an important conversation that is taking place within the evangelical church at large. The Gospel Reformation Network has issued a statement containing 12 affirmations and denials on the issue of the gospel and sanctification. This article explains the first of these 12. Subsequent articles will address the remaining affirmations and denials.

What Kind Of Church Should You Belong To? – “According to the Bible, the church is both global and local. And being in a healthy local church is critical to the spiritual health of men. But what makes a healthy church?”

And we’re including this for your viewing pleasure. Remember that laughter is healthy, but caution is order. You can’t unsee this! From 2:00 – 2:20 is worth the price of admission!
