Weekend Reads 4/25

Here are a few links we found interesting or worthwhile this week, and we pass them on to you for reading over the weekend.

I Love My Black Letter Bible – “The miracle of inspiration means the whole Bible is the voice of God. While central and foundational, the fourfold Gospel witness is no more true or reliable or relevant or binding than the black letters that precede and follow. Indeed, when we treat the red letters more seriously than the black ones, we muzzle the Son who speaks in all of them.”

Personal note: I switched to a black letter bible several years ago and will never go back to a red-letter. It is a seemingly subtle thing, but it makes a huge difference in how you read the bible.

9 Ways to Battle Depression, Condemnation, and Anxiety – This is a helpful list for those struggling with depression or anxiety. Read this, even if you don’t deal with these issues yourself. It will equip you to help your family and friends who do.

You Can’t Claim a Promise – “When we claim a promise we are attempting to take control of it. We come to it with a presupposed notion of how it should play out. But when we realize that a promise is not a thing for us to have or use, only then do we realize it is bigger and better than we imagined.”

How Mothers Can Worship in the Midst of Inconvenience – “I do get it “right” sometimes and wake up in the calm morning hours before the kids are up. Those mornings offer the ideal quiet times with God where I have the opportunity to really reflect on Scripture. There’s a mug of coffee beside me and the promise of a bright day that began well. Then there’s reality.”
