Wifely Proverbs Archaic?

An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones.  Proverbs 12:4

A Christian wife’s ministry as spelled out in scripture is primarily to her family, her husband and children, not solely but primarily.  This is not a popular or politically correct notion, but it is a biblical notion.  And it is one that we will answer to before God.

There are women claiming Christ’s name who would tell us otherwise.  Who irreverently laugh and make fun of verses like these as if they are archaic and irrelevant.  We’ve moved on, our society has progressed they arrogantly insist.  The roles that God assigned the genders from the beginning no longer apply.  The path of submission that Christ so humbly trod should be jettisoned for a path of our own making, they say directly with their actions and indirectly with their words.  Like somehow we are more enlightened than Christ!

There is a more beautiful way.  A way that honors Christ and breathes life into families.  One that he taught us by example in his humble submission to the Father’s will for him.  When a wife also humbly submits her life to God’s word (his will), she gets to be her husband’s most prized possession, like a crown on his head instead of a disease in his body he desires to escape.  We find it is not punishment or archaic, but that it is for our own good after all and our life is more beautiful for listening to God.

I certainly want to be ” the crown” to the man pictured above instead of “rottenness in his bones”!
